ChatGPT Scheduled Tasks Are Now Available to Free Users

OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT Scheduled Tasks to eligible Free accounts, with a dedicated management page, task sharing and stricter scheduling limits than paid plans.

OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT Scheduled Tasks to eligible Free accounts. As of August 25, 2026, free users can create one-time or recurring tasks, manage them from a dedicated Scheduled page and receive the results later without keeping ChatGPT open.

What changed

The Scheduled page brings task creation and management into one place. Users can review active tasks, see when they are expected to run, open previous results, and pause, resume, edit or delete a schedule. OpenAI has also added task sharing, allowing another eligible user to review a shared schedule and create a separate copy in their own account.

Limits for free accounts

Free users can have up to three active scheduled tasks. A task may run once or recur no more than once per day, using flexible windows such as morning, afternoon or night. Hourly schedules and exact delivery times require an eligible paid plan.

Availability can still depend on the account, workspace, app and app version. If the Scheduled page does not appear in a desktop app, OpenAI recommends checking ChatGPT on the web.

What remains limited to paid plans

Event-triggered tasks are separate from ordinary scheduled tasks. These workflows can react to supported activity in connected services such as Gmail, Slack or GitHub, but they require ChatGPT Work and an eligible paid plan or workspace. Free and Go accounts cannot create event-triggered tasks.

What users can schedule

Scheduled tasks can handle reminders, recurring briefings and monitoring requests. Examples include checking for travel changes, tracking new releases, or preparing a daily news summary. A monitoring task can remember previous runs and notify the user only when a relevant change occurs.
